Matfield Green expands art scene

An opportunity for artists to show their work at Pioneer Bluffs!

On Saturday, June 12, we expect several hundred visitors to Pioneer Bluffs. This year we are only 14 miles from the Symphony in the Flint Hills! On the schedule:
·         10:30 am to 1:30 pm - We are hosting a pre-Symphony BBQ lunch, auction, and art show.  The lunch is a combined project of Ranchland Trust of Kansas and Pioneer Bluffs.
·         1:30 pm to 4:00 pm – Open house and art show.

If you are interested in including your work in this art show, please note the following:
·         We must know what you plan to bring by Monday, June 7.
·         For those who have attended before, you know we will provide lighting for each piece and will prepare display placards with your information. I need to know in advance: Artist Name, Title of Artwork, Price (if available for sale), and Date Executed.
·         There is a limit of five pieces per artist.
·         25% of any art sold will go to Pioneer Bluffs.
·         Art work must arrive no later than 10:30 am on Saturday, June 12. We will begin hanging art at 9 am that day.
·         All art will be displayed on the walls in the 1915 barn and in the 1916 granary. We do not have table space.
·         Artists are invited to bring their paints for plein air throughout the day.
·         Artists and their guests are invited to join us for the free lunch, we ask that you let us know how many will be in your party.

Pioneer Bluffs Foundation

The mission of the Pioneer Bluffs Foundation is to celebrate the history and experience of the tallgrass prairie and its Flint Hills ranching heritage; and to revitalize Pioneer Bluffs as a community resource and gathering place where we explore sustainable ways to live in harmony with nature.

Located along the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway, the Pioneer Bluffs Foundations hosts monthy programs and special events.  For more information click here.

Chase County Historical Society

The building that houses the Chase County Historical Society Museum and Library is located at the corner of Broadway and Friend Streets. It is one of 9 places in Chase County which has been entered on the National Register of Historic Places, this building being entered on November 9, 1977. The two-story building, constructed of native stone, was built in 1882 and was originally used as the Chase County National Bank which continued in business until 1928. The building was used by several businesses in the years following. In 1976 it was purchased by the Chase County Historical Society for use as a museum, library and office. There are two floors of exhibits.

On March 31, 1931, the plane carrying famous football coach Knute Rockne and H.A. Christen, J.H. Happer, W.B. Miller, Charles A. Robrecht, Spencer G. Goldthwaite, Robert Frye and Jess Mathias, crashed near Bazaar in Chase County. losing all lives. There is a display of artifacts and original pictures from the crash site. Other pictures, data and newspaper accounts of that tragic day are also available in our library.
